How are height, weight, age, and sex used

SlateSafety uses basic demographic inputs to improve the accuracy of certain physiological estimates captured by BAND V2 and displayed on the SlateSafety platform. These inputs are used solely to improve the accuracy of physiological modeling within the system. If height, weight, sex, and age are not inputted for a user, then default values are used.

Height, weight, and sex are used to calculate estimated VO₂ and calories burned. These inputs help tailor the calculations to the individual, improving the relevance of energy expenditure estimates.

Age is used to calculate Heart Rate Limit Value (HRLV), estimated VO₂, and calories burned. Age-based formulas help determine predicted maximum heart rate and other individualized thresholds that support safer alerting and monitoring.

  • Note: if you are using HRLV as an alert threshold metric, then it is highly recommended that you input age. If not, then HRLV will likely be inaccurate.
