How to wear a SlateSafety BAND

SlateSafety BANDs are wearable devices that are meant to be strapped on the upper arm as shown in the picture below. When worn properly the device will provide immediate feedback in the form of a vibration and an orange LED.

Please note the following when equipping a BAND:

  • There is a sensor on the bottom of the BAND that needs to have direct contact with the skin to work properly. The BAND will not work when worn over clothing.
  • It is important to tighten or loosen the elastic strap so that it fits comfortably on the upper arm. If the strap is too loose then the BAND might not gather a good heart rate signal. Do not overly tighten the strap either -- when worn correctly it should be unnoticeable after a while.
  • For most wearers, the BAND is most comfortable when placed above the tricep and below the shoulder. It's best to place it in a spot where it is unlikely to slip down. Avoid placing the BAND over muscle divots or areas where the skin may lift or curve sharply. The sensor should maintain consistent skin contact with a flat surface of skin. Muscle divots can cause problems where the sensor is not able to make consistent skin contact.
  • When placing the BAND, avoid tattoos if possible. Tattoos can result in less accurate readings.
  • The BAND is not affected by being upside-down -- whichever way you put it on will work.
  • The BAND is not affected by being on the right or left arm -- whichever arm will work.
For most wearers, the BAND is most comfortable when placed above the tricep and below the shoulder

For people who are sensitive to certain materials

A great deal of care and research goes into choosing materials for all our devices. All materials included in the BAND V2 meet existing regulations. Every material that touches your skin has gone through extensive evaluation in accordance with our specification.

A small number of people will experience reactions to certain materials. This can be due to allergies, environmental factors, extended exposure to irritants like soap or sweat, and other causes. If you know you have allergies or other sensitivities, be aware that the BAND V2 and some of its straps contain the following materials which may have contact with the skin:

The BAND V2 may contain the following materials:

  • Polycarbonate
  • Gold over nickel plated Brass
  • Acrylic-based coating on the sensor
  • Biocompatible ink

The Strap V2 may contain the following materials:

  • Nylon
  • Polyester
  • Elastic containing Latex

The Fire Retardant Strap may contain the following materials:

  • Polycarbonate
  • Nomex Blend (73% Nomex / 27% FR Neoprene)

⚠ Latex Warning. The Strap V2 is made out of elastic containing latex. Users with a known latex allergy are advised to use the Fire Retardant Strap instead which does not contain any Latex

⚠ Nickel Warning. The BAND V2 and the magnets in the device and contain some nickel. Specifically the charging pins have gold over nickel plated brass. However, they all fall below the strict nickel restrictions set by European REACH regulation. Therefore, while nickel exposure is unlikely to be a problem, you should be aware of the possibility in case you're susceptible to nickel-related reactions.

Skin sensitivities

Some people may experience reactions to certain materials used in jewelry, watches, and other wearable items that are in prolonged contact with their skin. This can be due to allergies, environmental factors, extended exposure to irritants like soap, sweat, or other causes. You or any BAND V2 wearer at your organization may be more likely to experience irritation from any wearable device if you have allergies or other sensitivities. If you or any BAND V2 wearer at your organization have known skin sensitivities, please take special care when wearing the BAND V2. BAND V2 wearers may be more likely to experience irritation from the BAND V2 if worn too tightly. To help minimize, ensure BAND V2 wearers periodically move or remove the BAND V2 to allow skin under the device to breathe. Keeping the BAND V2 and the associated strap clean and dry will reduce the possibility of skin irritation. If a BAND V2 wearer experiences redness, swelling, itchiness, or any other irritation or discomfort on their skin around, or beneath, their BAND V2, please remove the BAND V2 and ensure they consult their physician before resuming wear. Continued use, even after symptoms subside, may result in renewed or increased irritation.
