Testing Cellular Signal Strength
Cellular connectivity is critical for transmitting real-time safety data from your SlateSafety Bands. If you want to evaluate network coverage at a large, complex, or heavily shielded industrial facility, you can use your existing hardware to map signal strength.
While not required for most deployments, the following protocol outlines our recommendations for conducting an accurate on-site connectivity test.
How It Works
SlateSafety Bands report cellular signal strength in two scenarios:
- When they are being actively worn.
- When they are charging.
The most efficient way to test locations without interrupting daily operations is to utilize the charging state. By placing charging Bands in target locations, you can gather static signal data over an extended period.
Step-by-Step Testing Protocol
To get a reliable baseline of your site's coverage, follow these steps:
1. Identify Target Locations
Select the specific locations you want to evaluate.
2. Deploy the Bands
- Place a multi-charger with 5 Bands at each chosen location.
- Important: Keep track of the specific Band IDs assigned to each location so the data can be mapped correctly later.
Note on Band Count: We suggest 5 Bands per location for statistical confidence, but fewer Bands will still provide a useful baseline if hardware is limited.
3. Log Data for 24 Hours
Leave the multi-chargers plugged in and undisturbed at their designated stations for a full 24 hours. This ensures the devices capture any signal fluctuations that occur throughout different shifts or times of day.
4. Contact Support for the Results
Once the 24-hour test is complete, contact SlateSafety Support (support@slatesafety.com) and provide the list of Band IDs alongside their corresponding locations. Our team will pull the cellular strength logs for those specific devices and send you a coverage report.
