How to Monitor Beacon Usage

The Beacon Usage section on the History page allows authorized users to review how each Beacon performed throughout the day. This feature helps you understand when a Beacon was actively collecting environmental data and when it triggered alerts or Return-to-Work (RTW) notifications. It is a helpful tool for evaluating environmental monitoring coverage, verifying Beacon placement, and identifying locations where network connectivity may need improvement.

Why Beacon Usage Is Useful

Monitoring Beacon usage provides:

• Daily data collection hours: See how many total hours a Beacon recorded data each day.
• Alert visibility: Review when a Beacon triggered environmental alerts or RTW notifications.
• Coverage issues: Identify Beacons that are not collecting data consistently, which can indicate poor placement, a lack of nearby Gateways, or reliance on passing Bands to relay data.

How to View Beacon Usage

1. Navigate to the History page of the SlateSafety Web Application.
2. Open the dropdown menu at the top of the page.
3. Select Beacon Usage.
4. Review the table showing usage statistics for each Beacon.

You can sort the table by hours of data collected to quickly identify Beacons that are out of consistent Gateway range. If a Beacon shows less than a full day of data, it may not have had a reliable connection to a Gateway, and likely depended on nearby Bands to upload its data when someone passed within range.
